The ACDC is now the Long Term Recovery Office. It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays and Bobbie Greene is staffing it. The phone number is still the same. 792-1503. They desperately need case managers who will help flood families through the recovery process…

24church has Sycamore Creek Flood Relief shirts available with the proceeds going to flood relief efforts contact Keith at keith.whitfield@24church.com

If you want to help with the long term recovery on the ground? Come join 24 church this Saturday at Sycamore Recreation at 9:30 am. Come support Keith and his team…

Yesterday the AC Distribution Center closed for good during its time it helped hundreds of families and supplied work teams of hundreds of volunteers along with public utility districts and fire departments. Kind of sad to see it close but its mission is done… Goodbye ACDC! I will never forget you…

My fellow pastor Jay Vorhees of Antioch UMC coordinator the Southeast Nashville Flood Relief posted these instructions for proper rebuilding in Davidson but I think most things are pretty much the same…pass it along!

A Process for Reconstruction

Posted on June 6, 2010 by Jay

Are things starting to dry out? Have you treated for bacteria and mold and the studs are getting to below 20% in moisture content (you really need a meter to know!)? Well then it may be time to start rebuilding. Here is a basic outline of how the process works in Nashville:

  1. Home Owner  or Contractor pulls building permit
  2. Arrange for a licensed electrician to do the needed repairs.
    1. Minimum needed is the change of outlets that were submersed by water.
  3. Arrange for licensed HVAC and Plumbing contractors if repairs are needed.
  4. Once rough in inspections have been completed for electrical, HVAC and plumbing:
    1. Ensure all penetrations in the floor and wall plates have been fire caulked.
    2. Seal up under tub drain pipe.
    3. Fix or make any framing changes.
  5. Call in for framing inspection
  6. Insulate
  7. Install sheetrock or paneling
  8. Tape & texture sheetrock  (If funds are available, we recommend that this be down by a professional finisher.)
  9. Prime new sheetrock.
  10. Install finish floors
  11. Install kitchen cabinets or bathroom cabinets
  12. Install base board and window trim
  13. Paint walls (This can be done before item 10, but if you do it at that point make sure you use flat paint for touch ups.)
  14. Call contractors in for trim out on electrical, HVAC and plumbing.
  15. Once final inspections have been completed for item #14 call in for final inspection.

Here is the link to the Kingston Springs blog talking about KSES being chosen for NBC makeover:

Just found that FEMA put my cell phone number along with Missy Bolt at the Ark as contact people for volunteers for homeowners. They are apparently handing out flyers with this info. Please tell anyone you know not to call me but to call the AC Distribution Center at 792-1503. They have the master list and I am just telling this people to call them. Thanks for passing this along!

KINGSTON SPRINGS — All decked out in Kingston Springs Elementary School Cardinal red, teachers, students, parents and volunteers learned Tuesday morning that the school had been chosen to be a part of the new NBC makeover series, “School Pride.”

KSES was ravaged by six feet of swirling floodwater that tore through the building in May, leaving only the structure in place.

“This opportunity will not only help us rebuild our school but build a school that is enriched in resources,” said interim director of schools Dianne Williams.

“It will bring the entire community together as we have this uplifting makeover. The KSES community has suffered a great loss, teachers have lost all their resources they have purchased or developed over the years, and students have watched their school be destroyed by a natural disaster.“

Williams thanked educators, students and technology director Dale McCarver for putting together a video to submit to the NBC series for review.

The weekly one-hour series focuses on transforming America’s educational system through school campus makeovers. It will air on Fridays this fall at 7 p.m.

School officials hope to have the school ready to go by the time school resumes on Aug. 6.
